I had an interesting visitor this past week. I have known Matthew since he was about 14 years old. His parents are Covenant missionaries in Mexico City. I had not seen Matthew for quite some time--since he graduated from high school, went to North Park University and then worked for several years to earn enough money for this incredible bicycle journey that he embarked on this past June.In June Matthew began his 15,00 - 20,000 mile journey on the Pan American Highway. He started in Deadhorse, Alaska and hopes to end up in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Interestingly, Oaxaca is about the half way point on his journey. The Pan American Highway passes through many diverse climates and ecological types, from dense jungles to cold mountain passes.
Matthew came pedaling into Oaxaca last Tuesday afternoon and was able to visit for several days, including one day celebrating his birthday with us. It was fun to hear of his many adventures and hear his hopes for the rest of the trip. He left early Monday morning on the next leg of his journey--to the isthmus of Tehuantepec in the state of Oaxaca. I drive this part of the Pan American highway quite often and am amazed that Matthew will be doing this by bicycle--it is all mountain curves!

It's great to hear this report on Matthew. We had dinner with his parents at the Allnutts' house after church when they spoke at Faith Covenant..They told us about the PanAm trip, and we're sure they're glad he's safely as far south as he is now.
